Arch Linux
Orphan package removal, journal trimming, pacman cache cleanup, and a bigger pick-your-own checklist for extras.
Overview
This tool targets three routine sources of clutter on an Arch install: packages nothing else depends on anymore, an unbounded systemd journal, and a growing pacman package cache. It then scans a wide candidate list - LibreOffice, GNOME/KDE default apps, default games, mail and torrent clients - and shows you a numbered checklist so you decide exactly what gets removed.
Changes
- Removes packages returned by
pacman -Qtdq(orphaned, no longer required by anything) - Trims the systemd journal to 200M with
journalctl --vacuum-size - Clears the pacman package cache, keeping one cached version per installed package
- Scans over 30 optional apps (LibreOffice, GNOME/KDE bundled apps, default games, Thunderbird, Transmission, HexChat, and more), then shows a numbered checklist - you pick which numbers to remove, 'all', or skip entirely
What stays
Your explicitly installed packages, dotfiles, and personal data are untouched. The checklist only removes what you actually select - nothing runs automatically.
Command
curl -sSL https://debloatme.com/arch | bash
Script source
#!/usr/bin/env bash
#
# DebloatMe - Arch Linux
# https://debloatme.com/arch
#
# What this script does:
# 1. Removes orphaned packages (packages no longer required by anything)
# 2. Trims the systemd journal to a bounded size
# 3. Clears the pacman package cache
# 4. Lets you pick, from a checklist, which optional bundled apps to
# remove (LibreOffice, GNOME/KDE extras, common desktop bloat) -
# nothing is removed unless you select it
#
# Reads confirmation prompts from /dev/tty so this still works when the
# script is piped straight from curl (curl ... | bash).
#
# This script does NOT reinstall your desktop environment, does NOT touch
# your dotfiles or personal data, and does NOT run silently - every step
# is printed before it runs.
#
# Review this script before running it. Removing packages can have side
# effects depending on what you've built on top of them.

Warning
This script modifies your system
Removing orphaned packages is generally safe, but pacman's dependency graph can occasionally flag something you still want. The script prints every package before removing it.
- Self-deletion: this script removes its own temporary downloaded copy after it finishes. That's a cleanup step, not a security feature.
- Review the source above before running it, especially on a system you can't easily restore.
